Bella Bella - boat trip
Amazing saturday with Lori, Claudette and Reg! They took us mentors on a boat trip! Herman, so kindly, piloted us all the way around Campbell Island, with a quick first stop at Shearwater (Denny Island) for gas and snacks and coffees!
It was an absolutely beautiful blue sky day (we were worried it was going to be too windy)…being in the Heiltsuk homelands was magic! We saw pictographs! Eagles! THREE young orcas! TWO humpback whales! A crow sat on the bow of the boat talking to us while we were moving forward very fast! It was such an exciting and MAGICAL day.
We also visited Kunsoot Wellness Center, it was so calm and thoughtful with wood walkways, paintings, cabins, greenhouse, gathering areas and a fire pit shaped like a cedar hat. Here is their vision statement:
Our vision for the Kunsoot Wellness Centre is an inclusive, accessible, and safe space for land-based healing and learning. It is purpose-built to promote Heiltsuk wellness. In the face of trauma and crisis, it is a beacon of resilience. Its aim is to draw out the individual and collective strength of our people in an environment of comfort and support – steeped in culture and surrounded by nature.
There was also a traditional stone fish trap there! Original sustainable selective fishing!
After our amazing day we all had a late lunch in Shearwater and then headed home with full bellies and smiles plastered to our faces.

We also visited Kunsoot, a new Heiltsuk run wellness retreat, which was incredible.
